Lara Czajkowski Higgins serves as the Crawford County representative to the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway Board, being appointed in 2021 by Governor Tony Evers. A native of Wauzeka Wisconsin, Ms. Czajkowski Higgins grew up canoeing, fishing, and camping on the lower Wisconsin River. After completing her education and several years of legal training, Ms. Czajkowski Higgins returned to southwest Wisconsin in 2003 to practice law and raise her family. She has taken great pride in teaching her children to appreciate nature via canoe and kayak; usually in wooden boats handcrafted by her father. She remains actively involved in environmental preservation, most significantly by working to restore an Oak Savanna and native prairies on her family's rural Wauzeka farm.
"By living away from the lower Wisconsin River, I came to appreciate the natural beauty and significance of this resource. Upon returning to this region, I have the opportunity to once again enjoy the Wisconsin River. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway Board, as it provides me with a way to do my part to preserve this natural treasure."
